The story of Lubers began in 2000, when Wayne Fertig purchased Dave’s Pit Stop in Drayton Valley, AB.

Having spent much of his life as a highwayman, Wayne knew firsthand the value of convenience on the road. He recognized that an express oil change shop could save drivers time while providing reliable service — and he wanted to bring that benefit to his hometown. When Lubers opened its doors, Drayton Valley was thriving, and Wayne built the business around three pillars: top-notch service, fair pricing, and community values. From the start, Wayne’s family was by his side to help the business become the success it is today.
In 2009, after Wayne’s passing, his daughter Charli-Lorann Fertig took over the Drayton Valley shop. Supported by her family and a dedicated team, Charli has carried on Wayne’s vision, ensuring customers are always treated like family. The business has remained true to its roots, offering fair prices, honest service, and a promise to always do what’s right for the customer.
Expansion was always part of the family’s dream, and in 2021, that dream became reality. Charli, along with her brothers Corbett and Cavan Fertig, her husband Edward Kezar, and her mother Louise Laforce-Fertig, opened a second Lubers Express location in Fernie, BC. Cavan had previously worked in Fernie in 2018 and fell in love with the city and its surroundings. After a family visit, the rest of the Fertigs shared the same connection to the area. With Fernie’s strong community spirit, healthy economy, and breathtaking scenery, investing in the city felt like a natural next step.
Today, every vehicle serviced by the Lubers team is treated with the utmost care and respect, as if it were our own. Our customers are always more than transactions — they are part of the Lubers family.

We also take pride in reducing our environmental impact by recycling used oil, filters, fluids, and other recyclable items. Lubers Express is also an active member of the Drayton Valley & District Chamber of Commerce and the Fernie Chamber of Commerce.
Giving back has always been part of who we are. Lubers proudly supports local charities, our local hockey teams and events in Drayton Valley, Fernie, and the surrounding areas, not because it’s expected, but because we value and respect our communities. We believe that keeping money in our communities is key to ensuring they thrive.
